“Diaspora communities have the potential to be the most powerful people-to-people asset we can bring to the world’s table. Because of your familiarity with cultural norms, your own motivations, your own special skills and leadership, you are, frankly, our Peace Corps, our USAID, our OPIC, our State Department rolled into one.” – Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, May 11, 2011

Description: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will convene the 2012 Global Diaspora Forum to explore how the U.S. government can more effectively partner with diaspora communities to enhance sustainable development and diplomacy with their countries of origin.  The event is aimed to recognize, celebrate, and inspire the work of U.S.-based diaspora communities.  With the theme, “Moving Forward by Giving Back”, the Forum will focus on how new technology can empower and increase diaspora philanthropy, social entrepreneurship, volunteerism, and social innovation.  Other themes include: investment and trade, disaster relief, education, ethnic media, health and medicine, sports, science and technology, youth, arts and culture.  The Secretary will also announce four new commitments to strengthen the U.S. government’s efforts to partner with diaspora community groups.

Tune in to our live webcast and learn about new opportunities to contribute to a global alliance of engaged communities.  Join us to share your experiences and to discuss how to build new partnerships among communities around the world.  Full information about the program and the agenda can be found at: www.diasporaIdEA.org.
